Biography
Emma Lohan, songwriter and performer, is reputed for entertaining her audiences with her wicked sense of humour and evocative melodies. This November, she will be debuting her one woman show with loop stations, and synths reminiscent of LAURIE ANDERSON and ROZI PLAIN all over Ireland in a 7 show countrywide tour.
This tour will be in honour of her homecoming to Ireland after living and touring abroad in the UK and the Balearic Islands in Spain for the past 9 years. Lohan (of NEW POPE and RIVERS & CROWS), moved to London in 2015 to record her debut solo album BLACK ATLANTIC. The album was an international success, receiving rave reviews from Irish RTE Radio 1 to KCRW Radio in the US. Following a busy year producing and touring the UK and Ireland in 2017, Emma moved to Mallorca to write her next album THE FISH AND BIRD SYMPHONY.
Lohan immersed herself in the eclectic Spanish island scene playing with producer Sam Williams (Super Grass, The Go Team); Damien Rice; Leo Napier; Oso Leone and minimal techno labels such as Santacata Records and Planetary Instinct. It was here she developed a unique blend of her Irish folk roots with Balearic house beats to create her new “TECHNO FOLK” sound.
From learning African folk polyrhythms hitchhiking from Morocco to The Gambia, to solo trekking across the Sierra de Tramontana of Mallorca, translating the sounds of the birds and the crickets into symphonies; Lohan has stories to tell.
To celebrate the feature of her single “1957”, on the hit NETFLIX series “Everything Now” starring Stephen Fry, Emma is thrilled to return to Ireland and hit the road with her new music this coming November 2023.
